About this event

After the great success of our Launch Event in January, we are back with our next event looking at Responsible use of AI.

We are honoured to be joined by Michael Davey, Technology & Operations of Signly.

The history of computing in the 1940s and 1950s was an era of incredible innovation, with multiple teams working independently to develop digital computers, often unaware of each other's progress. AI today is experiencing a similar inflection point, where rapid advancements are happening across industries with different approaches to regulation and governance.

Michael's talk will explore the two main paths AI development can take:

  • A fast-moving, lightly regulated approach that prioritises quick progress but may require addressing ethical and societal challenges later.
  • An accountable, regulated AI model, championed by the EU, which focuses on governance and safeguards upfront, offering long-term stability but potentially slowing short-term innovation.

He'll also touch on global AI standardisation efforts, including ISO42001, regulatory developments in the EU AI Act. Lastly, he’ll discuss how trustworthiness is becoming a key barrier to AI adoption, and how responsible AI strategies can help overcome this challenge.

Michael will also share the fantastic story of Signly and how tehy have used AI to help deaf communities.

About Michael

There, he developed sign language translations at scale from concept to delivered product, directed and integrated a multi-disciplinary team, and project managed many of Robotica’s client projects.

There will be the chance for networking before and after Michael's talk. Whether you're just starting your AI journey or experienced in the field, Hampshire AI offers a dynamic environment to explore new trends and insights in this rapidly evolving industry.
