Contractor Legislation Unpacked: IR35, Joint & Several Liability and Staying Compliant - Online Webinar
11 March, 2026With new contractor legislation taking effect from 6 April 2026, organisations that hire contractors need a clear understanding of where responsibility and risk sit across the labour supply chain. Whether contractors are engaged directly or through recruitment partners and umbrella companies, understanding compliance obligations and potential exposure is increasingly important.
In this session, we were joined by Matthew Tyler from Kingsbridge and Sam Amos from SafeRec, who shared insights into contractor legislation and compliance. Matthew covered the fundamentals of IR35, outlining how employment status is determined in practice, addressing common misconceptions, and explaining how the off-payroll working rules apply to organisations engaging contractors. Sam provided an overview of Joint and Several Liability (JSL), explaining how liability can flow through the labour supply chain, the potential tax exposure organisations may face, and the practical steps businesses can take to reduce risk when working with umbrella companies and recruitment partners.
Together, the discussion explored how businesses can better understand their responsibilities, strengthen their contractor engagement processes, and approach contractor compliance with greater confidence.
